When I moved to Tennessee three years ago, I found myself reconnecting with a tradition that had been a major part of my life growing up. After spending years in Florida, where the climate didn't lend itself to the classic sauna experience I remembered from Kazakhstan, I had drifted away from the ritual.
That changed when I arrived in East Tennessee.
Today, the sauna has once again become a regular part of my life. Many evenings are spent with friends in the gym sauna, where conversations often last longer than our sessions. Just like years ago, the sauna creates a place where people slow down, put their phones away, and simply enjoy each other's company. Those moments of fellowship remind me why I loved the sauna so much growing up.
But there has always been one thing missing.
In Kazakhstan, the experience didn't end when you stepped out of the sauna. During the winter, we would cool off in fresh snow or embrace the freezing air before returning to the warmth. The contrast between intense heat and natural cold made every session unforgettable. It wasn't just about getting hot—it was about experiencing nature alongside the sauna.
That feeling is what inspired Smoky Banya Mobile Sauna.
East Tennessee is filled with incredible places to enjoy the outdoors. Imagine staying at an Airbnb overlooking the Smoky Mountains, with a wood-fired sauna just steps away. Picture spending the day at the river, alternating between the warmth of the sauna and a refreshing dip in the cold water. Think about gathering with family at the lake, creating memories that go far beyond a typical weekend together.
I also see the sauna serving athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. After a race, a hiking adventure, or a sporting competition, heat and cold exposure can become part of a recovery routine while bringing teammates together to celebrate their accomplishments.
My vision has never been simply to rent a sauna.
My goal is to bring an experience that combines wellness, nature, and community—an experience that isn't limited to a spa or a gym. I want people to enjoy a sauna wherever life takes them: beside a mountain cabin, at a lakeside family gathering, next to a cold creek, after an endurance event, or anywhere they can imagine.
For me, the sauna has always been more than a hot room. It's a place where memories are made, friendships are strengthened, and time slows down. My hope is that Smoky Banya Mobile Sauna helps others create those same memories, wherever their adventure begins.
